Hunter Hill is an example of what we hope all leaders would be.
A native of Vinings, Hunter graduated from the Westminster Schools in Atlanta where he was later inducted into the Westminster Hall of Fame in both football and baseball.
During High School, Hunter became an active member of the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta. He credits his church, study of the Bible and rigorous training in the military for shaping his character and making him the man he is today.
Hunter was recruited to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point where he earned his letter as a punt return-man and quarterback on the football team. While at West Point, Hunter was an active leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
After graduating from West Point, Hunter began his Infantry training. As an infantry officer, he graduated from the Airborne School, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Combat Lifesaver School and the US Army’s premier leadership school, the Ranger School.
In June, 2001, Hunter reported for duty to the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, KY. In those first, uncertain weeks after September 11, Hunter’s company was tasked to secure a chemical weapons depot at an undisclosed location. He was later deployed to Afghanistan and then Iraq.
After the successful invasion of Iraq, Hunter was selected to be the Aide-de-camp to the Assistant Division Commander for Operations of the 101st Airborne Division traveling the northern portion of Iraq observing and learning the skills of diplomacy.
Hunter was promoted to Captain on October 1st, 2003 in Mosul, Iraq, in front of one of Saddam’s many palaces.
He finished his first term of service helping to train the Army’s elite soldiers as part of the Ranger Training Brigade at the US Army Ranger School.
Upon being released from active duty in May 2005, Hunter took a job with Carter Real Estate in Atlanta managing the development of high rise office developments. He was later awarded the Carter Values Award.
In September 2006, Hunter was recalled to active duty and was deployed to Afghanistan to mentor and train the Afghan National Police.
For his most recent service in Afghanistan, Hunter was awarded his second Bronze Star Medal; his other military decorations include a Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
In May, Hunter returned home, has rejoined his church and Carter Real Estate, and has decided to run for State Senate. He is a member of US Army Ranger Association and the American Legion Post 160.
Hunter’s military service is what drives him to be involved in public service. He has defended our country and protected our families in uniform and on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq. Now he wants to protect our future, the freedoms we enjoy and the opportunities our children can have by serving us in the State Senate.
Hunter is the son of Dicksie McCutchen Hill of Dalton, GA and Alexander Smith Hill of Atlanta. Dicksie, a graduate of Emory University and a former officer in the Junior League, now runs her own real estate company in Atlanta. Alex is a proud UGA graduate and works in commercial real estate.
